Self-exclusion in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia

Self-exclusion is a program you sign up for with your state regulator to keep yourself out of gambling. Each state runs its own, and the rules differ, so read the regulator's page before you enroll. We link only to official pages.

Michigan

Michigan Gaming Control Board

  • Online gaming and internet sports betting: the Responsible Gaming Database (RGD) lets you exclude yourself from all Michigan-regulated online gaming and internet sports betting.
  • Detroit casinos: the Disassociated Persons List excludes you from the Detroit commercial casinos for life, with a removal request possible after 5 years.
  • Questions: the Board’s Responsible Gaming line is 888-223-3044, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.
  • Calling 1-800-GAMBLER connects you to Michigan’s Problem Gambling Helpline (24/7).

New Jersey

Division of Gaming Enforcement (Office of the Attorney General)

  • You can exclude yourself from internet gaming and sports wagering only, or from Atlantic City casinos and racetrack sports wagering as well as internet gaming.
  • Four ways to sign up: in person or by video conference, online, or through your online player account.
  • Minimum periods are one year, five years or lifetime in person or by video conference, and one year or five years online.
  • Sign-up help: the DGE self-exclusion hotline is 1-833-788-4DGE.
  • New Jersey’s Gambling Helpline is 1-800-GAMBLER.

Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board

  • Separate programs cover casinos, interactive (online) gaming, video gaming terminals and fantasy contests.
  • You can enroll online, in person at a Board office, or by scheduling an appointment with the Office of Compulsive and Problem Gambling at 717-346-8300 or problemgambling@pa.gov.
  • Casino bans are one year or five years. For online gaming, video gaming terminals and fantasy contests you choose the length when you enroll.
  • The Board’s site lists 1-800-GAMBLER.

West Virginia

West Virginia Lottery

  • The Voluntary Exclusion Program covers all four West Virginia racetrack casinos and The Greenbrier casino, and also applies to mobile applications and online gaming associated with the West Virginia Lottery.
  • You enroll by signing the Self-Exclusion Request Form, which is on the Lottery’s page.
  • An exclusion from your iPlay account alone does not exclude you from sports betting, iGaming or casino activities. Use the Voluntary Exclusion Program for those.
  • The West Virginia helpline site, 1800gambler.net, lists 1-800-GAMBLER.

Operators also have their own tools, such as deposit limits and breaks, in your account settings. Those are separate from a state program.

Set limits before you play

Decide your budget first
Pick an amount you can lose without it touching rent, bills or savings, before you open an app. Treat it as spent.
Set a time limit
Choose how long you will play, set a phone alarm and stop when it goes off.
Use the operator’s own limits
Look in your account settings for deposit, loss and time limits, and for a break or exclusion option. Set them while you are calm, not after a loss.
Do not chase a loss
A bigger bet will not undo an earlier one. If you notice yourself raising stakes to get even, stop for the day.
Skip it when you are upset or drinking
Stress, anger and alcohol all make it harder to stop at your limit.
Keep it one part of your week
If betting is crowding out work, family or sleep, take a break and talk to someone.

Signs gambling may be a problem

  • Betting more money or more time than you planned
  • Trying to win back losses with bigger bets
  • Feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut back
  • Borrowing money or selling things to keep betting
  • Hiding how much you bet from family or friends
  • Missing work, school or time with family because of betting
  • Feeling anxious, guilty or low after betting

If several of these sound familiar, that is a good reason to call the helpline above, even if you are not sure it is a problem yet.

What MyWager is, and is not

MyWager is for adults 21 and over. You must be 21 or older to use the offers we list.

MyWager is a comparison and affiliate site. We do not take bets, hold your money or run a sportsbook or casino. When you click an offer, you leave MyWager and sign up with the operator, which may pay us a commission. Read how we earn money and how we rate operators.

Gambling involves risk and no offer changes that. Only bet money you can afford to lose.
