Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr., Jurickson Profar leave game early

The San Diego Padres lost a pair of key players during their 9-5 win over the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Friday, but the club is hopeful both won’t be out for long.

First, right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. sustained a left triceps contusion when he was hit by a Colin Rea pitch in the third inning.

Tatis initially stayed in the game, but Tyler Wade pinch-hit for him in his next at-bat in the fifth inning.

Then in the seventh, left fielder Jurickson Profar left the game after he hit a double to right. Profar, who has been dealing with left patellar tendinitis, was removed for pinch runner Jose Azocar.

After the game, Padres manager Mike Shildt told reporters that Tatis would be sore but that the team is not overly concerned about the injury’s seriousness. Profar will sit out Saturday but could be ready to return Sunday, he told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Tatis, who grounded out in his first at-bat, is hitting .279 with 14 homers and 36 RBIs in 80 games this season. Tatis has been playing with a right quad injury since April. Earlier this season, he had a career-high, 17-game hitting streak.

Profar, who finished 1-for-4, is hitting.320 (which ranks second in the majors) to go along with 10 homers and 48 RBIs.
